February 23, 2000 – Carlos Santana ties Michael Jackson’s 1983 record for the most Grammys won in a single year, including Album of the Year for his album Supernatural, and Record of the Year and Song of the Year for “Smooth,” his collaboration with Rob Thomas of Matchbox 20.  Supernatural sells 30 million records worldwide.

February 23, 2003 – Howie Epstein dies of complications from drug use in New Mexico.  He was 47.  Epstein was the longtime bassist in Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and also collaborated with many other artists including Bob Dylan, Carlene Carter (to whom he was engaged for many years), Johnny Cash, John Hiatt, Stevie Nicks, Roy Orbison, Carl Perkins, John Prine, Linda Ronstadt, Del Shannon and Warren Zevon.  He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with the Heartbreakers in 2002.
