Today in Headbanger History – June 19, 2022

June 19, 2022

June 19, 1987 – Guns N’ Roses perform their first concert outside of the U.S. at London’s legendary Marquee Club.  They neglect to play “Welcome To The Jungle” or “Sweet Child O’ Mine” in their 12-song set.

June 19, 2004 – A stick from a thrown lollipop somehow becomes wedged in between David Bowie‘s left eyeball and his eyelid. It’s the same eye that caused Bowie trouble in the past, when, as a kid, he got in a now-legendary fight with schoolmate George Underwood that left his eye permanently dilated — causing many to think that his eyes are two different colors.  Bowie stops the show and shouts, “You f—ing wanker! You little f—er!”  It is later revealed that a woman was pushed in the crowd and the lollipop flew from her hand while she was dancing.  Luckily, Bowie escapes serious injury.

June 19, 2006 – Duane Roland, guitarist for Molly Hatchet, dies of natural causes at his home in Florida. He was 53. Roland recorded seven albums with the band, writing songs including “Good Rockin'”, “Bloody Reunion” and “Boogie No More.”
