March 24, 2001 – A stretch of road on Highway 19 in Macon, Georgia, is named Duane Allman Boulevard, near where the Allman Brothers guitarist died at age 24 in a motorcycle crash on October 29, 1971.
March 24, 1962 – Mick Jagger and Keith Richards perform their first paid gig when they appear as Little Boy Blue & the Blue Boys at the Ealing Jazz Club in England.
March 24, 1973 – A fan shouting “Leather!” jumps on stage and bites Lou Reed in the rear end during a concert in Buffalo. Reed commented after the concert that the U.S. “seems to breed real animals.”

March 24, 2010 – Jim Marshall, prolific rock photographer, dies of unknown causes while traveling in New York City. He was 74. Marshall is responsible for the famous shot of Jimi Hendrix setting his guitar on fire at the Monterey International Pop Festival in 1967, Janis Joplin cradling her bottle of Southern Comfort tightly backstage at a concert and Johnny Cash flipping the bird at San Quentin State Prison in 1969. He was also the head photographer at Woodstock.
