May 8, 1996 – Tommy Lee and wife Pamela Anderson lose their suit against Penthouse magazine when a judge rules that the magazine may publish nude photo stills stolen from their home.  The stills were taken from an X-rated home movie that was filmed on their honeymoon.

May 8, 1965 – Bob Dylan shoots a film clip for his song “Subterranean Homesick Blues” which becomes the forerunner to what we now know as music videos.  The famous “flashcard” clip theme is then duplicated many times in music videos and movies.

May 8, 1944 – Bill Legend (born William Arthur Fifield),  drums (T. Rex)

May 8, 1943 – Paul Samwell-Smith, bass (The Yardbirds)

May 8, 1943 – Danny Whitten, guitar, vocals (Neil Young’s Crazy Horse) (d. 1972)

May 8, 1911 – Robert Johnson, blues singer, guitar (d. 1938)

 

HEADBANGERS HEAVEN:

May 8, 1974 – Graham Bond dies when he commits suicide by throwing himself in front of a train.  Bond was 36. Bond was the keyboard player in Blues Incorporated and then formed the Graham Bond Quartet, with Ginger Baker and Jack Bruce.  At the time of his death, he allegedly believed he was the son of occult figure Aleister Crowley.

May 8, 1982 – Neil Bogart, founder of Casablanca Records, dies of cancer.  He was 39.  Casablanca Records signed such acts as Kiss, T. Rex and Joan Jett.
